According to Sparks (2007), in the journal entitled Globalisation, Development and the Mass Media, he stated that before the 1990s, most mainstream media were national in scope, since then most communication media have become increasingly global “International flows of information have been assisted by the development of global capitalism, new technologies and the increasing commercialisation of global television, and which have occurred as a consequence of the deregulation policies adopted by various countries in Europe and US, paving the way for the proliferation of cable and satellite channels….”
Rapid expansion of global communications can be traced back to the mechanical advancements of technologies during the 18th/19th centuries, which began with the invention of the telegraph in 1837, and included the growth in postal services, cross-border telephone and radio communications, and the creation of a modern mass circulation press in Europe. Nowadays, media serve as the best means for a speedy spread of news about important incidents or events taking place. The speed that technology has achieved is helpful in times of crisis when media is to be used for reporting news that need immediate attention. It is true media has brought about a massive change in the way society think. Media has been responsible for making our world a smaller place to live. The persuasive power of media has been a major influence in our society today.

ReplyDeleteToday, media so dominates communication practices. As a consequence, communication has never been a more potent tool and communication must be handled with great care. So, in my opinion, it is a good thing to have such mediums that can ease our daily communication. For example, it used to be that most people in the world wouldn't start their day without consulting the local paper. However, times have changed. Because of the media today, the news delivered in different ways to different people along with the emergence of gadgets like tablets, cell phones and mobile devices of every shape and size. According to what are you saying, the persuasive power of media has been a major influence in our society today. With the emergence of technology nowadays, Internet is very easy to get and because of that, we can communicate easily with people. Moreover, the social media and the Internet are being so pervasive and because of that we can know what happen in the world fastly. Thanks to the media, we are living in easy way and stay connecting with people that we loved even they are far away from us.
ReplyDeleteMedia does play a lot of major part on constructing people's perspective to view the world. However, the manipulation of information in the media occurs in everyday life. People should be aware of this situation. We must not blindly believe everything the media tells us to believe. With FB and everything, people tend to share everyhting they see without knowing whether it is a legit news or not. One thing we can do from getting ourselves being a wrong informant is actually to make some research first! ☺
ReplyDeleteMedia is one the most influenced sources and people often believes what the media portrayed about certain issue. But not all the information is secure or can be prove as the right information because they(media) might manipulate it to create new perspective of the information for public to think. Public need to be aware about the issue so that they not be fooled by the certain parties. Through media we can have so many information but the information need to be filter and public need to make research to make sure the information is the real truth and reliable.

This is because our society believes that only media can be their sources of information. In a modern society, all information at the fingertips.People can use the media in a wrong way especially they use social media to spread or viral the false news. ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, media plays an important role in improving the communications. Back then before the existence of the Internet, we receive news through newspaper, radio and television. But sometimes, the news cannot travel that fast as what we expected. However with the advancement of technologies, news travels almost as fast as it happened. Nowadays, situation that happened on the other side of the world can reach to the knowledge of the people from the other side. That is the benefit that we gain from the technologies. However, there are also a bad side of it where the spread of fake and unreliable information. Sometimes, people are too caught up in trying to catch up with the latest news, they don’t bother in trying to verify the truth of the news. That is becoming a problem in the spreading of fake information. Although there are some downsides of medias, we cannot deny the fact that it is very helpful for the society, especially from alternative medias. Sometimes, news that are shown on the mainstream medias are filtered by organisations such as government in order to hide some truth that is believed to bring “harm” to the government, however, because of that reason, they limit our knowledge. That is the function of alternative media, where they cover news that can’t be covered on mainstream media. Through the variety sources of media channels that we have these days, the source of information we could gain has become unlimited and we could also see views from different perspectives and also widen our spectrum of thinking. therefore, yes. Mass media has the power is changing the world.

Media play an important role in change society perspective in order to gain attention by spread the news quickly. Yes, media does influenced people mind today even it happen long time before we came to this world. Media present information in a biased lens so when we engage in any media no matter what issues being published is that, we tend to receive the idea from those authors. At the other hand, as reader, we prefer to believe the news which has the same idea with our perspective even if the news is totally wrong. Media give a lot of benefit to our life, it help us to communicate easily with our relatives and I agree that media is such a good thing for us to use.

Okay, so I will explain my view now. As well known, keywords linked with mass media is public communication and popular culture. To be honest, our experience is limited, so most of time, we know this society through the media, that is means, the world in our mind is a world after selected and interpreted by medium, with the progress of the symbolic activity, physical reality seems to be in proportion to narrow. What is more, the media not only affects the world in people's minds, but also people's living environment. It's also changed into a mediumlization world slowly.
For example, with the rapid expansion of mass media, the consumption nature of society has changed obviously. Before maybe more trend to material consumption, but now, is the image consumption. In a simple word, media is play an important role in the era of reading pictures but not words.
Maybe, mass media just like bacteria, exist so pervasive, but we haven't notice.
