Citizen journalisms are
can be found commonly today, everyday in our live. Citizen journalism is where
normal citizen are posting, reporting, sharing real time situation that happens
in their environment Via social media, people can post anything
real time. The media that commonly used are Blog, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram,
Youtube and many others
But does citizen
journalism give more goods than harms, or in reverse, its giving harms more
than benefit? Here I will share my thought about this.
Sure, keeping eye on
track while some situation happens on social media is more accessible and
convenient more than sitting in front of your television all day. You sure have more things to do, right? They help
us to get real time story on our hand in second.
Citizen journalism also helps us to get the
real story that media may play with it. The citizen may share their thought
with the issues that are happening current time. The citizen can give us the different view of
current issues that happens.
For the cons itself, citizen
journalist has no basic knowledge for reporting the news. With these, citizen
journalist may give inaccurate, false and misleading information. So if you got
something from social media, you should re-check everything that comes to you.

I agree with your opinion, the role of citizen journalism give positive and also negatif effect. The positive way we can see here, citizen journalist can clear the certain information and help the public to understand the real situation and this act can avoid misunderstanding. For the negative effect is citizen journalist can be agresif while doing their action. For profesional journalist it a basic they need to follow rules and ethic while doing reporting but citizen journalist might don’t know it. Other than that, the information from the citizen journalist might not correct because they might got the information from unverified sources. This can make public people confuse about certain issue and they will interpret the information at will, this will lead to misinformation. That all form me ^_^.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your statement where we should check the reliability of the information we get before we share it with other people. However, I cannot deny that sometimes, we did not even open the link and just share the information solely based on the "delicious" titles of the articles. That is what went wrong. Usually the writer of the article or information tend to put titles that are able to attract people's attention to read their news. There are also cases where this is what the spammers or website that brings malware use attractive titles to gain click on their website. Therefore, before sharing anything on the net, I seriously think that we need to verify the news first, only then we can share it to other people in order to avoid any misunderstanding

As a human, we easily attract with something that rare and sound best but we even know the thing is good or not. So, there will be going wrong. However for me, it depends on ourselves. If we want to believe, we believe, if don't want, so don't. As for me, I not even dare to post or share something that I'm not sure and believe. This is because I scared people will misunderstanding my perception. So, I'm better listen and see it, but don't too always share information especially information that have sensitive issue.

ReplyDeleteHi Insyirah~ ;) True that citizen journalism has its own pros and cons. With their writing, we are able to know more than what the newspaper offers. Of course they always insert along their opinion and stand on certain issue. As a reader, we cannot just follow and believe everything blindly. We need to be smart to distinguish which is factual and which is not. However, what concern me the most right now is that citizen and official journalism seem to be in the same level now. It is a shame to see official news published on the web tells more about silly, stupid and unnecessary issue than hard news such as disaster,world issues, politics and citizen-welfare related. This thing makes me wonder, do the journalists really trained to be a journalist? Or are they the same person who we labelled as keyboard warrior? I really hope Malaysian journalism improves the quality of our newspaper before our nation is labelled as the state with worst journalism skill.
ReplyDeleteI agreed with you, citizen journalism have both its pros and cons. Although, it provides more variations and information for the citizen itself but then on the certain occasion they are mostly put their opinions and judgment through their story, which is sometime bring misunderstanding and misconception between the reader. It is also important for the writer to really understand and have wide knowledge regarding the issue, because we do not want public misjudgement the case that will probably lead to chaos within the society, especially a news about politic. I hope if citizen journalism can be broaden all over Malaysia with a trained and skilled journalist, maybe the government can provide a platform for the non-journalist to learn more about journalism and their ethics. So that there will be no any untrusted source from the citizen journalist.
ReplyDeleteCitizens journalism can be found easily nowadays and it help us in get current issue. Actually it is good because it really help us to know what happen. Citizen journalism usually will give the information that happen around us and sometime it have related with us, this is the benefit from citizen journalism. However this is not always accurate because when the citizen post an event they will put the caption or the information based on their perspective where this is not always right. Besides, the information given is without any evidence to support their thought toward the issue.

Hello there, I agree with you that we have to check or ensure that information that we spread through social media are reliable. In social media, citizen journalist always disseminates the information without checking first it’s true or not. They just read and without long thinking then constantly spread the false information. They have some cases that a blogger have being sued for spreading rumors and false news about someone. He convicted as a slander. With the advance technology, rumors or information can spread widely. Thus, we should careful of using social media. We should check first the reliable sources before share it in social media.

ReplyDeleteCitizens journalist in my opinion it is really good 'eyes' in society. Citizen journalist are formed a new model, they promoted the establishment of more network monitoring , promoting rational treatment of those in power , and improve the people's participation in public affairs initiative.
But on the other hand , citizens journalist are not all professional in quality, therefore the report citizens journalist did are easy make people think the reality.

ReplyDeleteFor this topic, I want to use to illustrate the situation of China, because in today's Chinese society, it's so common. Especially after the social networking site- Weibo popularitied.
ReplyDeleteFor example, in China, a large number of major breaking society news/events, not released first by professional journalists, but the amateur "citizen journalists". Until these events become a hot topic on Weibo, mainstream news began to focus on.
Today, the requirement of time limitation of news from audience is increasing day by day, new media is more and more developed, so, the traditional media professional journalists' inherent advantage is gradually lost.
Objectively speaking, the work nature of professional journalists and "citizen journalists" determines the advantages and disadvantages of them. The former's news reporting is the professional conduct, they get income such as salary, bonus and fee from their job, it indicates the strict normative and binding. While the latter is mostly compulsory behavior. So, in language expression and mining degree of problem, apparently more freedom and more daring.
"Everybody can spread the news", I agree with what you said we can see a lot of interesting things and novel idea in inadvertently from the popularization of citizen journalists, but one thing to note is that no matter when and where, we can't lose the ability to judge right and wrong when we read the news.
